When To Do A Private Consult?

We are available for private consultations at an hourly rate for both members and non-members.   Private consultations are available for a myriad of issues, including but not limited to assistance in requesting an IEP, preparing for an IEP meeting in general, helping to understand assessment reports and figure out a student's educational needs, investigating why a student is not making progress, developing a strategy to achieve a parent's specific objective (such as a change in a reading program or other service or placement), understanding whether a student’s progress was appropriate, creating a progress monitoring plan, and identifying appropriate areas for IEP goals and goals themselves.

Some parents like to do a private consult with one of us at the outset when debating the need for an IEP or when trying to understand the implications of an assessment report they already received ("what does this report mean" and "what should we do" are frequent questions).  Other parents come to us after the IEP is in place but they suspect their child's IEP is inadequate and they are looking for confirmation of their suspicions. Still other parents come to us with specific problems or concerns about inadequate goals, accommodations, services, evaluations, or the like.  More, parents may come to us simply to be taught how to understand and monitor their child's progress under an IEP so as to effect change when and if needed.  And, sometimes, parents comes to us when they run into a random roadblock, get stuck or overwhelmed and want to strategize about paths forward.

We are happy to consult and strategize with you on any of your non-legal questions or concerns about the IEP and 504 process.

If you have the ability to advocate with just the help of our informational Articles, which include our thoughts on strategy and our approach to various situations as well as sample cases, and our Checklists, Guides and Organizational Charts, our subcription membership may be right for you, particularly because we are available to members during our weekly forum discussions and can answer member questions during those discussions .
